Webinar - Strategies & Case Studies for Improving Digital Access on the College & University Campus
August 25, 2011: 10:00 a.m. - 1:35 p.m. (MST)*
*All times in Mountain Standard Time (MST)
Seminar Description
A Google or Yahoo search on "campus accessibility policy" reveals that the number of campuses implementing (or at least posting) a system-wide access policy for web pages and digital media seems to be rapidly growing. Is this an effective way to improve accessibility at a university or college? Are there other strategies for increasing the accessibility of a campus' electronic resources? This Webinar will attempt to answer these questions.
Jon Gunderson, whose accessibility survey of university websites was published in the December issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education, will talk about the strategies undertaken encourage and insure accessibility by the universities rated most highly for web accessibility. He will also discuss what his own university - the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) - does to address the issue of digital access. Susan Cullen will talk in a similar vein about her own campus - California State U. at Northridge (CSUN) - which rated 2 out of 183 in Jon's survey.
WebAIM will talk about their ongoing grant-funded project to assist institutions in system-wide web accessibility efforts, addressing such issues as:
- Gaining top-level support for institutional web accessibility.
- Creating a campus-wide accessibility committee.
- Benchmarking institutional web accessibility with an eye toward continuous improvement.
- Gaining buy-in from faculty and staff.
- Understanding how web accessibility may tie into regional accreditation.

Captioning
All our webinars include real-time captioning. A url to access the caption stream will be sent before the seminar along with instructions and tips for using it with the webinar interface. The video recording of the webcast will be captioned and posted following the event. (This usually takes a couple of weeks).
Screenreader Access
Unfortunately, most of the control buttons on the V-CUBE interface are not labeled semantically. We are working to remedy this issue as quickly as possible. In the meantime, here are some tips for using the V-CUBE interface with a screenreader.
Ticket Types
Individual Ticket
Play the seminar on your computer. Includes access the captioned recording of the event afterwards.
